Dr Rafael Leal-Arcas interviewed and cited by newspaper on offshore energy in the Levant Basin

Published:

Dr Rafael Leal-Arcas, Reader in European and International Economic Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), has been interviewed and cited by Offshore Technology in an article entitled 'Offshore Lebanon – will the Levant Basin be a blessing or a curse?'.

The article explores the problems faced by Lebanon in its bid to exploit its gas-rich Levant basin, citing Dr Leal-Arcas' paper 'Gas and Oil Exploration in the Levant Basin: The case of Lebanon and Israel'.

"A lot of people are saying the discovery of gas [in the Levant Basin] has been a curse," says Dr Leal-Arcas. "At the moment this seems to be the case," he adds. "But it could be a blessing, if they [Lebanon and Israel] find a way, through international cooperation, to respect each other".
